crit with richard

today was my crit with richard about my essay and how it is right now. some key points:
  • a good start but seems unfinished
  • not enough research
  • i need to be more confident, get rid of 'i think' and use 'this is'
  • some changes to some of my wording
  • bring in theories and utilise them
  • make sure to add people's opinions on images that i choose

more sketchbook

recently with my sketchbook i have been trying to focus down my ideas. i feel like my previous drawings have all been a bit all over the place. i think writing this down in my journal, the themes i want to focus on really helped me to whittle down my ideas.

i have been really interested in banksy quotes. i think some of the things he says are really influential and really match the theme of my essay.

some little sketches which carry on the idea of animal-human role reversal. i really like how these ideas and themes are coming through. as the aesthetic i have captured is cute and naive, however the message is still pretty dark. i think the first time you look you dont notice what the image is trying to portray, so i think by using colour this will help.

another one of banksy's quotes that i think is really influential and important. i'm thinking of using it in reference to the animal cruelty drawings, for example, the fur coats. asking 'i cant believe you morons really buy this shit'. i think tying banksy in with my animal cruelty really helps to define my visual journal.

some little comics about animal cruelty and the reversal. (sorry if theyre a bit hard to see). i was influenced by some of the illustrations that i found earlier about animal cruelty an the reversal between humans and animals. i think this idea is really interesting and i would like to carry on doing something like this. i think refining these drawings is an area that i could focus on.

i really love this drawing. i think it turned out really powerful. it really shows what its like for animals, the message of the reversal really coming across. i think it makes people think, rather than just seeing a fur coat they might actually stop and think about the animal that is behind it.
